The first Birkin bag for sale in the metaverse
Privé Porter, beloved of celebrities such as Cardi B and Paris Hilton, is adopting Boson Protocol’s technology to sell some of the world’s most sought-after bags as NFTs during Metaverse Fashion Week, taking place in Decentraland from March 24–27.
The retailer of new and pre-loved Hermès Birkin and Kelly handbags, among others, will display four ultra-exclusive handbags in Threedium’s store in Decentraland, from where fashionistas will be able to purchase them and receive the physical bag delivered to their doorstep.
Boson Protocol’s technology that enables the sale of physical goods as NFTs and Privé Porter’s Authentication NFTs (ANFT) — which, in the unlockable content, contain the serial number, craftsman stamp, redemption method and data points that only the buyer can see upon ownership — are a perfect example of how this technology can be used in the metaverse to bridge the digital world with the physical world.
The two companies, Boson Protocol and Privé Porter, are developing the first NFT which does not get “burned” upon redemption, a use case that is applicable to not just collectable accessories, but all collectable assets such as art, wine, watches. These are categories that were, until now, monopolized by the legacy auction houses.

Four handbags will be minted into NFTs, including a Hermés 25cm Kelly Sellier Bleu Indigo Shiny Nilo diamond and 18K white gold hardware, listed at $280,000, and an Hermés 25cm Birkin In and Out Biscuit/Multicolor Swift Palladium hardware 2021, which is set to fetch at least $58,000.
