Threedium receives Boson Protocol Ecosystem Grant to enable the physical redemption of 3D digital goods
Threedium has been awarded a Boson Protocol Ecosystem Grant to enable the physical redemption of 3D digital goods. Boson Protocol’s $5Million Grants Program is an initiative designed to reward innovation and to incentivize the thinkers and doers who will help us create an entirely new commerce ecosystem.
Boson is the first dCommerce protocol that enables anyone to sell physical products as NFTs, without the need for a centralized intermediary. Threedium’s 3D engine makes it possible for Boson users to sell digital twins of their products while fulfilling the physical purchase.
The beauty of Web3 protocols is that they are expressly designed as open interfaces on which other people can build. Hence we have designed Boson as a core component, enabling smart contracts to connect to real world commerce and build infrastructure that everyone can trust, can use, and which allows buyers, sellers and creators to flourish in an equitable non-extractionary environment.
We envisage Boson as the fundamental layer that will enable an entirely new type of commerce (dCommerce) ecosystem. The future of commerce is digital — and it is decentralized. We have chosen the metaverse as the first showcase for the principles of dCommerce (read here about why we think the Open Metaverse is so important).
This is why we have developed Boson Portal on our estate in Decentraland: to illustrate the possibilities of how brands can develop experiential, gamified commercial experiences that have never been envisaged before. Seeing is believing, and while we could continue to build our ecosystem on our own, we believe that the future of technology is a shared future. We therefore hope that our vision of Portal will inspire and attract more collaborators into our ecosystem.
We want individuals and enterprises to join us in our mission. Building an ecosystem takes time and effort. But we also recognize that great work needs to be incentivized. It does not happen in a vacuum, which is why we are offering up to £50,000 per project to encourage others to help us create the interconnected components that anyone can use.
A new path for digital ownership
Threedium will enable the digitization of physical products that can be sold as 3D visualizations and fulfilled in their physical form. As people get used to shopping in the metaverse, they need to see compelling 3D representations of the items they will receive in the real world.
“Our partnership with Boson means that when you make a digital purchase in the metaverse you will know that the item you receive at home will be exactly as you expected,” said Mike Charalambous, CEO of Threedium. “3D is the future of eCommerce and together, we are forging a new path for digital ownership as brands begin providing their products as NFTs.”
Being able to present products in this inspiring, innovative way is one of the key ways forward for building excitement around the metaverse: we need to be able to shop and display our possessions in the same way we do in real life as we move seamlessly between the real world and the virtual one.
