Oscar Castro Neves or, as he is known internationally, Oscar Castro-Neves, was a Brazilian singer, instrumentalist, arranger, composer, music producer and music director. He was born the twin of two more brothers and grew up in Rio de Janeiro. His first instrument was a cavaquinho, while his first musical group was a partnership with his brothers: the pianist, Mário; the bassist, Iko; and the drummer, Leo. His first composition was with "Chora Tua Tristesa," at 16 years old. In the 1970s and early 1980s, he participated in the Paul Winter musical ensemble. For seven years, Oscar directed a Brazilian music program at the Hollywood Bowl. With an audience that surpassed 14 thousand people, the program paid homage to the big names of the "jazz-Bossa" fusion and was televised globally. Castro Neves died at the age of 73, on September 27, 2013, due to cancer at his home in California .
