Finally, drones are useful, helping two swimmers by dropping an inflatable buoy for them to float into shore with. The swimmers were lost outside the flags, and we got a drone to them quicker than humans. And ‘Little Ripper’ is a pretty great name as well [Original story].

Up till now, the main benefit of drones has been being hit by fireworks, drug smuggling, and a competition between Australia and Kiwi’s for picking up snags and KFC.

Drones have been used to speed up search and rescue last year in the Grand Canyon, but now they’re useful for helping in emergency services.

How long until all rescue can be automated by drones?
