“Grief is the price we pay for love.” — Queen Elizabeth II

I was very emotional last night as I tucked my children in for the night.

I couldn’t help but think about the parents of all the children who died in yesterday’s tragedy. They wouldn’t be able to give their kids another goodnight kiss, thinking they wouldn’t be able to tuck them in at all.

It’s heartbreaking.

If you’re as angry, upset, and heartbroken as I am about the school shooting that took place yesterday. You’re probably wondering what can be done to prevent something like this from happening again.

The massacre of children is something my mind and heart can’t comprehend.

To discover that the murderer was 18 years old and still a kid is difficult! It would not make anything better if he were an adult, but what are we doing as a society? What needs to take place in someone’s mind to want to do this?

There is unquestionably a mental health problem that demands attention.

More resources need to be dedicated to this so that people may learn about it, assist others with it, and raise awareness. We need to talk about this issue at home.

How is it possible for a kid to get military-grade weapons with such ease?

I’m referring to him as a kid because, even though he was an adult who had the legal right to buy these weapons, he was still a boy!

I refuse to believe there’s nothing we can do to stop this from happening again. We have to try something, and we have to try it now.

Our children are our future, our everything, and they deserve to be protected. They should be able to go to school and not have to worry about being massacred.

Of course, I’m not naive enough to believe that a piece of legislation will stop this from happening, but it’s a start. We need stricter gun control laws, and we need to enforce them.

We can’t get rid of all guns, and I’m not suggesting that we do. But we can make it harder for people to get their hands on them.

I’m not saying that everyone who owns a gun will massacre innocent children. Still, I am saying that it would make it more difficult for mentally unstable people to get their hands on these weapons.

And if even one life is saved as a result of this, it’s worth it.

Of course, there’s always the chance that these people will get their hands on these weapons illegally, but that’s a risk that’s always there.

Background checks need to be conducted, and they need to be thorough. We also need to close the loopholes that allow people to buy guns without these checks.

And no one needs a military-grade weapon.

The number of school massacres in the United States compared to other nations is staggering. The US alone has 288 school shootings, and it’s several places away from second-place Mexico.

How many schools have been attacked in Mexico? There have been 8!

We need to demand stricter gun control laws, and people need to vote for politicians who will pass these laws.

It’s time for a change, and it starts with us.

If we don’t do something about this, the blood of innocent children is on our hands. It’s time to take a stand and make our voices heard.

To say that yesterday’s tragedy was heartbreaking would be an understatement.

My heart aches for the parents of the children who lost their lives.

There’s nothing that can bring these children back, but we need to do something to prevent this from happening again. We owe it to them and their families.

So tonight, I’ll be hugging my kids a little tighter, and I’ll be thankful that they’re safe. No parent should have to bury their child. It’s an unimaginable tragedy that happens far too often.

As a society, we need to do better.

We need to be there for each other and look out for each other.

We need to have tough conversations about mental health and gun control.

We need to demand change.

For the sake of our children, we need to do something.
