electric scooters vs petrol scooters

When we talk about mobility in India, two-wheelers have always dominated our roads. Due to rising fuel prices and increasing environmental impact, petrol scooters have come under the scanner for all the wrong reasons, and it has paved the way for e-scooters to become a conscious choice and a viable substitute in the two-wheeler segment. This is encouraging a next-gen level disruption in the market with many players launching innovative electric two-wheelers (E2Ws) for Indian consumers and accelerating the e-mobility revolution in India.

Bounce is India’s first smart mobility solution company, all set to disrupt the e-scooter ecosystem from the inside out. With our latest launch, the Bounce Infinity E1, we have designed an e-scooter with a supporting ecosystem for charging that resolves a major issue that otherwise threatens mass EV adoption in India. But the task is not limited to creating the infrastructure only, a significant part of the task is also creating end consumer awareness about the long-term benefits of going electric over petrol.

So here are the top five reasons to go electric in comparison to petrol, broken down for the consumers to enable them in making an informed and efficient choice.

  1. Upfront cost: Price of purchase is a major concern that tends to deter consumers when choosing e-scooters, however, they often can’t see the escalating cost of petrol scooters over the tenure of ownership and hence get confused. At Bounce, we have launched the Infinity E1 as a one-of-a-kind e-scooter that comes with a removable battery. Because of this feature, consumers can purchase our scooter without a battery. This makes E1 an affordable choice as batteries account for anywhere between 40–50% of an E-scooter cost. Removing the battery out of the equation has made our scooters easy on customer pockets and one can now purchase the E1 at INR 45,099 (ex-showroom Delhi) only.
  2. Maintenance and operating cost: Petrol scooters need frequent servicing and maintenance because of the wear and tear of the mechanical parts. Also with recent skyrocketing fuel prices, their running cost has substantially increased. E-scooters on the other hand have lesser moving parts and run-on batteries which significantly lowers running costs by 40%. Consumers majorly have to focus on maintaining the batteries and charging them frequently. But, with Bounce Infinity E1, you will no longer have to even worry about battery charging and maintenance. Ride stress-free and every time your battery is low on charge use the Bounce app to locate our nearest battery-swapping station and exchange your nearly empty battery for a fully-charged one. For each swipe, you pay INR 35 which amounts to INR 0.65 per km.

3. Convenience: Petrol scooters only offer an illusion of convenience to customers as they may think fueling takes only a few minutes and fuel stations are available everywhere. Whereas, petrol scooters deliver a range of 50–60 km on average with only select models that can go up to 100 km per liter. If we compare apple to apple, it may appear that E-scooters don’t offer the same convenience because of a lack of EV infrastructure in India. However, at Bounce we have set in motion the plan to build the world’s largest and densest battery-swapping network through which we will be able to support our customers at every 2kms. When you buy the Infinity E1 without the battery, you no longer have to worry about charging and maintenance, just drop by any of our battery swapping stations and swap batteries ‘on the go’. Even if you are buying the Infinity E1 with batteries, we offer convenience. You no longer have to look for parking spaces with charging infrastructure for charging your e-scooter. Just remove the battery from your scooter with a click of a button and charge it anywhere at home or work by simply plugging it into a socket. One full charge offers a range of 85 km.

4. Technology and features: When it comes to technology, electric scooters win hands down as there is no tech integration in petrol scooters. Bounce Infinity E1 comes with a smart companion bounce app. You can use the app to track every move of your scooter. The app also offers additional features like drag mode, reverse mode, cruise control, battery health, tow alert, anti-theft alert, and geofencing.

5. Environment: In India, the two-wheeler segment is responsible for over 20% of total CO2 emissions in urban areas, and as our cities grow this is bound to increase. On other hand, e-scooters have a minimal environmental impact as there are no direct emissions from riding these scooters. Switching to e-scooters will definitely improve the air quality in our cities. So, when you buy Bounce Infinity E1, you are not only making an economical choice but also an environmental one.

With Bounce Infinity E1, we intend to offer an electric scooter that has been designed to cater to Indian roads, Indian pockets and make the transition to E2Ws faster and easier. So what’s stopping you now? Make the smarter choice, go electric!
