Coming from a small village, I’ve been working online with people in different parts of the world.

It all started with the first job that I got in 2021 (in the second year of my graduation) as a copywriter and content writer. At that time, I was in my hostel working in a Delhi-based agency (In the capital of India).

It took me 5 months to get this job after sending 20 messages daily on LinkedIn, trying in the Facebook groups, and approaching people via email.

But you can do it in less time if you know the exact steps (which I wasn’t aware of initially.)

So, here are the actions to get your client or job opportunity in the next 30 days by leveraging the power of the online space:

1) Build your presence online

Not many; choose one platform to build your authority and a strong presence where your audience is active the most. It can be LinkedIn, X, Instagram, etc.

Suppose you post content on LinkedIn or X, when your content pops up in front of your targeted audience, it builds trust and trust is the foundation of professional connections.

Get visible where your audience is. There is a saying in Hindi — “Jo dikhta hai vahi vikta hai.” (What is seen sells.)

2) Interact with people online — Networking

Take the step for yourself by sending messages and initiating conversations. Avoid pitching in the first message. Imagine, if you’re meeting someone, will you directly ask for the job or will you greet and ask about them?

So, consider messages like this:

Name,

Greet,

It’s great to see your incredible work in the [ABC] industry. I have been following you for the last few weeks and appreciate your initiatives in [XYZ].

I’d like to exchange thoughts with you.

Regards,

Then, ask professionally for any available opportunity.

Maintain your professional and polite voice rather than showing your obsession.

Remember, the way you communicate talks a lot about you. People sense energy and your personality based on your communication style.

3) Provide Value

In the process of getting that job, I engaged in the posts of that founder by dropping comments under her posts. That’s how I got attention. And messaged her later asking for the opportunity.

When you provide value through your content, it makes you memorable and creates a positive impression.

This way, you get either a reference, work or a kind gesture.

Yes, you get the message of ‘no’ as well. But that’s a part of the process.

4) Have goals in mind but not get obsessed with them.

We get gripped when we have extreme expectations and keep our focus only on them. And when they don’t meet, we fall apart.

I made this same mistake, and those experiences of disappointments taught me lessons that helped me get better and further sharing lessons with you.

Focus on the inputs and the process while analyzing your activities to keep yourself on track and avoid distracting yourself.

  • Publish targeted content
  • Network with people
  • Initiate conversations
  • Do it repeatedly.

Analyze what to improve and remove while doing all of this. Record it to keep track and get your opportunity in the next 30 days.
