I Can’t Blame Amazon for Firing Me

At the start of the epidemic, my job as a Whole Foods shopper didn’t last long.

I was already working at home when COVID-19 hit.

I was about six months into my new business and had gotten used to working from home with most of my interactions being with our three dogs. And reruns of Bones.

Little by little the world started shutting down, and my places to work from as a way to get out of the house began closing, or only opening for to-go orders. This meant more time at my home office.

More and more I started to feel like I needed to get out.

Then I saw that Amazon had posted job openings for Whole Foods shoppers in my area. With so many people ordering groceries to be delivered, there was a need for people to do shopping orders and prepare them for delivery.

I like to grocery shop. And I love Whole Foods.

The biggest draw was that I wanted to get out of the house.

I applied.

I filled out the paperwork and was invited to an “interview” at a local hotel. The place was packed. It was less an interview and more a presentation of documents, like my driver’s license.
