I’m Going To Smash My Objectives This Year
Here’s how I’m planning on making 2025 my best year yet
A couple of weeks ago, I set myself some objectives for this year.
They’re not resolutions, exactly. To me, those are more “I want to” kind of things instead of “I will” kind of things.
If you want pie in the sky, things that might or might not happen, you make resolutions. If you want real, actionable things that have concrete steps to make them happen, you set objectives.
I’m aware that this is largely a matter of semantics and words, but the fact is that words are incredibly important — and they matter. None of us would be on this platform if they didn’t. So, the words we choose to use with ourselves and others are important as well.
One of the most important things that the use of “Objectives” gives me over “resolutions” is a tie-in with my daily life in Emergency Management, where almost everything we do is tied to objectives.
Management by objectives is so deeply engrained in my work life that it only makes sense to bring it over into my personal life as well.
