Beyond Those Butterflies and Fairytales…
Hello! Namaste! Vanakkam!
Dear Readers,
Love — the invisible string that ties this whole universe together! We all grow up with our first love as our mothers. The love of our own ones is so pure and unconditional. Maybe that’s why we set benchmark against which we measure all future relationships and perhaps that’s why we’re always in pursuit of a love that mirrors this profound bond.
Growing up, we’re led to believe that somewhere out there is our “soulmate,” the missing piece of our puzzle. And that this individual is supposed to give us butterflies and complete us in ways we can’t even think of. But let’s take a moment to understand this notion.
So far, movies have done a fantastic job of promoting the highly unrealistic concept of “love at first sight.” You spot someone across a crowded room, your eyes meet, and boom — you’re already imagining a future complete with a house and 2 kids. Well, that’s hilarious because it’s not a “love at first sight” but a “lust at first sight.”
And here’s a fun thought — we’re still trying to figure ourselves out including our life’s purpose, and we’re expecting this one person to fulfill us. Just like magic! It’s like we’re standing at a bus stop with the time ticking on but expecting an anywhere-door.
I don’t really know if love would give us butterflies but one thing is for sure — it’s complicated, it’s confusing, and it’s often illogical. But isn’t that what makes it all the more fascinating?
But dear reader, putting aside the butterflies and cinematic fantasies, isn’t it great that we get to know ourselves much better in the quest of finding and knowing the one? Isn’t it wonderful that this journey helps us unveil and appreciate love in its simplest, purest form, free from all the selfish desires or expectations — a perspective this generation seldom consider?
Let’s keep our hearts open, let love flow, and above all else — stay true to who we are. Because the most beautiful love stories are those where we remain authentic to ourselves✨
