The Time Difference Between New York & Europe Has Me Confused
Spain, where I am at the moment, is six hours ahead of the US east coast, so how can I be watching Saturday Night Live from New York? Maybe I’m dreaming . . .
It was early afternoon here in Spain where I’m on vacation, when a bizarre bit of news from the States flashed across the TV screen. I figured it couldn’t possibly be true — Spanish TV is difficult to understand, probably because I don’t speak Spanish.
But I had to know more so I turned to today’s New York Times which is available on-line around six a.m. my time. And yes, it’s really true. With wars waging around the world and no-one able or willing to stop the carnage, Republican leaders have confirmed a former Fox weekend news anchor as the United States Secretary of Defense.
No, you gasp. Or maybe you’re so shell shocked by what has already come to pass that, eyes glazed over, you just weakly nod.
Honestly, if this was April 1, I’d swear it was a joke. After weeks of senate confirmation hearings, Pete Hesgeth who doesn’t seem to have much of a resume other than being a military veteran and a Fox News anchorman (but only on weekends) got the job…
