A Short Reminder
Who is “the enemy within?”
Trump catapulted himself into the political zeitgeist with that fetid Birtherism conspiracy theory. In 2015, he launched his presidential campaign calling Mexican immigrants “rapists” who were “bringing crime” across the southern border. But, his racist history — in my estimation, his supremacist eugenic ideals and his psychopathic obsessions — had long been on display throughout his life.
Black Americans seem to have long been a particular target of his. However, his bigotry is more extreme than ever. It now extends to everyone and anyone who is not white and male and rightwing — and anyone who disagrees with him.
Of course, his bigotry was never narrow. Trump slurred Black men and Jews in the same breath, “Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes every day.”
And, in the 1990s he went after indigenous tribes, seeking to block them from building casinos in New York. Trump repeatedly pushed racist doubts over the legitimacy of tribes. He openly proclaimed their dark skin as proof they were falsely claiming indigenous ancestry.
