Be Deliberate in Everything You Do

Choosing your words and actions carefully can make a world of difference

I recently took a bit of a break from writing. I was overwhelmed and burnt out, and needed to decrease my mental load a little bit. Being able to decrease my debt load would have helped more, but we can only do what we can do.

While it turned into a deliberate decision, that’s not where it started. But that’s where it SHOULD have started, with a choice instead of the lack of one.

There are too many times when I’ve allowed myself to be forced into a decision by not making a choice, and I’m trying to stop that by reminding myself to be active in everything that I do.

This latest break didn’t start as a deliberate decision to NOT write. At the beginning, I was exhausted and needed to focus my attention in other places, like work and family.

After the first couple days, I actually closed my browser tab for Medium and securely filed my story ideas in the back of my head. I still have 133 articles started (most of which consist of a title and general idea, and not much else) and keep a file of additional story ideas elsewhere.

I knew I wasn’t turning my back on Medium for good, but I did know that I needed a little bit of space. I’ve done this…
