Boomers Know How to Protest
It’s been noted that with this round of protests against Captain Fuckface, people of color are mostly staying home, which is probably a good thing, considering their safety is in more jeopardy than ever before.
But I’ve been heartened to see the Boomers come out in force to protest. It makes sense, if you think about it: They’ve been doing this since the 1960s and ’70s, and at this point, they’re in their 70s and 80s and what do they have to lose?
That’s what’s been most impressive to me. At least in our town, the Boomers are willing to make a scene and even linger in front of traffic with their protest signs to make their point. Is it dangerous? Sure. They know that. They’re doing it anyway.
In fact, I think Boomers disproportionately make up the largest number of protestors, at least in my neck of the woods, which is a bit concerning considering I live in a college town.
We older generations have been projecting a lot on Gen Z, I think, but from what I’ve seen, many of them don’t have much of an opinion about the protests because they’re that politically ignorant. Many of them really don’t understand how dangerous the convicted felon and rapist is — a college student told me that democracy had survived thus far, and he felt as though people had cried wolf too many times.
