Can We Bridge the Gap Between the Left and the Right?

In a recent exchange with

he challenged me and you to, “Make a principled stand in defense of what good still remains.”

“Trump has revealed the black beating heart of America as it is, but that revelation gives us a choice: do we want to keep it or do we want to change it.”

went on to say, “I think we have the opportunity to change it if we could all get together in common purpose.”

“I hope enough good people can see this and make a principled stand in defense of what good still remains.”

I considered what I thought our country originally stood for, or at least who we aspired to be. I searched our founding principles and responded to each concerning the state we are in today. My comments are in bold italics inside parenthesis.

As you will see, the chasm that divides us is a vast expanse. I see no easy means to bridge the gap. For me, and I hope most of you…
