Whether You’re A Newbie or an Expert in Writing, Looking Up Some Advice Can Never Hurt.

All of us get sad at some point in our lives, it’s normal. No matter the reason. So when we create human characters, it’s only natural that at some point, they’ll feel sad too.

However, creating emotion can be incredibly tricky. How do you write that someone is sad without saying ‘he was sad and he cried.’ Lame! We want emotion! We want us them to see and feel it!

But first, what is sadness?

Sadness: Characterized by grief or unhappiness.

What Are Some Obvious Physical Signs that Could Be Perceived as Sadness?

Facial Expressions:

  • Redness in eyes/skin.
  • Puffy face/eyes.
  • Running makeup.
  • Down turned mouth.
  • Sniffing, wiping nose.
  • Tearfulness.
  • Flushed/pale skin.
