Creating Our Own Personal Party Problems on the Pool Deck
Mixing personal pleasure and work has one true storyline
“Hey, Sean! C'mon, c’mon! We’re going out to a party!” Kylie said with enthusiasm as she appeared in my dorm.
She was a tall and athletic fellow swimmer, with a larger-than-life personality which was rounded out by an infectious laugh. She was a textbook extrovert who brimmed with energy. She later became my best friend and was a total party animal. I sometimes wondered if she was a frat boy reborn as a woman. She had an uncanny ability to find any party in the vicinity.
How it all went began
It was 2003 and I was a freshman. There was no social media or smartphones — and thank god. The absolute last thing we needed was people broadcasting our shenanigans.
By chance, my first day in the dorm happened to overlap with my birthday. There was a house party several blocks away. We walked down the sidewalks of the Foggy Bottom, streaming past quaint three-story brick row houses, which sat comfortably in the heart of DC.
