I teach a college writing class for journalism students, and it always cracks me up when I look around at myself and my colleagues, the supposed evil liberals out there brainwashing conservative kids. I see some of the parents giving me the side-eye with my purple hair and black clothing, even as they’re fitted out in their Polo shirts, khaki slacks and $900 loafers, likely wondering what liberal poppycock I’m filling their impressionable babies’ minds with.

You want to know the truth? The truth is, all of the journalism instructors go out of our way to be as unbiased and nonpolitical in the classroom as possible. We have conversations amongst ourselves about it. You know why? Because that’s a core tenant of journalism, we all believe in it and adhere to it, and that’s exactly the knowledge we’re attempting to pass on to your kids.

Are some of us on staff libturds? Absolutely. But there are also conservative writing profs (this is the Midwest, after all), and professors who would describe themselves as politically central, and we all teach the same lessons and the same ideals, because facts don’t fall on political lines. Facts are facts.

Lest you think voting for t-rump and getting DEI taken out of colleges is going to radically how we teach journalism, I hate…
