Another Great Medium Move — Yes, this IS Sarcasm
Medium has made yet another move to screw over its long term writers. This time, they announced they’re discontinuing referred payments starting May 1.
In case you’re a newer reader or writer, referred payments are payments writers receive for referring paid readers to the platform. They discontinued the referrals a while back, but writers were still getting paid for the existing referrals…until now.
As a long term writer on this platform, I believe the writings on the wall may be pointing towards the exit. On the one hand, I still love this platform. I have connected with so many great people and truly enjoy the publications that have enabled me to grow as a writer.
On the other hand, this is bullsh*t! I’ve seen several newbies climb the ladder with the use of AI, and I’ve also noticed a growing population of disgruntled writers who do nothing but antagonize and steal ideas from other writers in hopes of regaining the traction they’ve lost due to the new changes.
But that is another topic for another day.
