Back-to-school season also means the return of school shooting season. As we grapple with the aftermath of yet another school shooting, this one just outside of Atlanta, GA, we will once again watch politicians dole out thoughts and prayers as the panacea to the epidemic of gun violence in the United States.

Let’s face it. Mass shootings are now as American as apple pie.

Why should we be surprised that a nation that values guns over just about anything else, where more guns exist than people, where firearms are the leading cause of death among children, and where the NRA lines the pockets of politicians has a problem with gun violence? Even other countries warn travelers to the U.S. about our comparatively higher rates of violence.

If you support the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and what it has morphed into, does this mean that you also support racism?

Let’s get into it.
