In an increasingly predatory, merciless quest for profits and unchecked markets, far right state legislatures want to make babies commodities.
Enter our Villain du Jour, Missouri State Rep. Phil Amato.
As a member of Team Embryo-Has-More-Value-Than-A-Woman, Amato proposed a bill that would have the state maintain a central registry of each expectant mother who is at risk for seeking an abortion of her unborn child.
At risk translation: female residents of Missouri who might assert personal autonomy when it comes to their own bodies.
Opposition was immediate given the risks to data privacy, but Team Embryo would not be deterred. Amato filed a new version after discovering the high costs of adoption. Now why should we expect a duly elected representative of the people to have any idea what his constituents actually face when trying to build, or not build, a family?
Silly us.
