When people say they've got your back, oftentimes, they don't.

A certain lady I know had marital issues that involved domestic violence, abuse and sometimes even rape. She had to endure a lot in that marriage till she could no longer take it and reached out to friends and family. Majority told her they would support her in any decisions she made but her heart still lingered with her spouse and she stayed put. After all, what would society say?

Eventually, when the heat became unbearable, she reached out again and she was met with the same support so she reported her husband to the appropriate authorities and hoped for a better life.

Nobody prepared her for the emotional rollercoaster, trauma, anxiety, bills and debts she was going to deal with.

The whole thing set her on a different path and she realized just how alone she was. The grueling reality was not something she was prepared for.

No matter how virtuous people seem to be, when push comes to shove, their true nature emerges.

When the bills were more than she could handle, she reached out to these same friends and family to support her and most of the support she got were words of affirmations. ‘Oh, you can do it!’, ‘don’t give up', etc.

But the truth was, she was sinking under.

After a while, she realized she was really alone and nobody was coming to save her. Thus, she began working multiple jobs to make ends meet.

This wasn't an easy adjustment, she had to make sacrifices to feed her children and keep them in school as well as handling her mental health and trauma. These things came at a cost but nobody was saving her, instead she had to do the saving.

And that's the reality of the world we live in. Nobody is coming to save you, you have to save yourself.

So don't put your hope in people, they are not God and God needs to meet you doing something to prosper the work of your hands.

If you are going through a tough phase, I don’t guarantee you it will get easy anytime soon but you can find the strength deep within if you look and if you are like me, the naturally demotivated kind, you can seek help when you need it but make sure to never give up because this too shall pass.

Have a lovely day and don't let the situation stunt your growth.
