The crimes committed against Gisele Pelicot are heinous, and I can’t imagine what she is experiencing. To discover that your husband, the man you have devoted your life to loving, betrayed you in such a disgusting way is just overwhelming.

If you haven’t heard the news, Gisele’s husband of 50 years was found guilty of drugging his wife repeatedly and soliciting men to rape her while he had drugged her unconscious. His punishment? The maximum of 20 years in prison. To me, that sounds like a slap on the wrist for what he did. Every single one of the men who participated in her abuse was also found guilty of sexual assault.

The key part of the defense of the 50 rapists? If the husband was allowing it to happen, then it couldn’t be considered rape.

Hold on, now. The defense essentially considered Gisele unable to provide consent to the abuse because she is the property of her husband? Only he can authorize the use of her body for the pleasure of strangers?

Yikes. I don’t know how those lawyers sleep at night.
