I have a friend who is still carrying around a grudge over her ex-husband leaving her for another woman. This happened over forty years ago. While I can understand the pain of being left to raise two small children and his betrayal, I can see that her anger is hurting her. In fact, she has just recovered from a very serious illness.

It reminds me of the quote: taking poison and hoping the other person will die. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way, and we just end up with the consequences of carrying around all that anger.

Forgiveness could be the last thing on your mind after being wronged. You truly believe that they are deserving of all the rage and hatred you possess.

But forgiveness is something you bestow upon yourself. Does the other person suffer from your anger? Most of the time, the other individual moves on. They may not even know you are angry at them.
