Have a Break, Have a Fresh Start
A Break Can Tear Someone Apart or Heal Their Cracks
I moved to Dallas from Austin in 2014 after accepting a teaching job at a high school in the DFW area. I thought I’d stay longer.
Sometime in the next six months, I’m moving back to Austin. There is no job offer pulling me. Pushing me is a court order and an ex-husband.
When I left for Austin, we were starting our family. We’d been married about a year, and I was halfway between independence and motherhood.
Personal freedom has taken on a new definition. I am a mother of two children, living through the first year of a divorce.
When I first became a mom, I lamented I could no longer put on running shoes and head out the door of my Austin home whenever I wanted.
Motherhood has taught me other ways of staying fit. I chase after ADHD Energizer Bunnies. I spot them while they lift the weight of divorce.
I am leaving Dallas. No special shoes are required. Taking a work break on the library's sixth floor, I wonder if I’m running to or from.
