He Loves Me
There is no not
Twenty-four years is a long time to spend with someone. (Twenty-two married.)
Pretty much my entire life, actually. (I know plenty of you may have clocked more, but to me, it’s a lot.)
Sometimes it feels like there was never a time I wasn’t with my husband.
Getting married so young came with some major growing pains through the years, and if I am being completely honest, there were many times we thought we wouldn’t make it.
In my opinion, kids should not get married before they even know who they are. It’s so much harder to figure out how to be a spouse when you haven’t even figured out how to adult yet. (To each his own, though. I am not going to picket the weddings of the young.)
It took some serious work to get to the point we are now, comfortable and content and confident in our relationship and each other.
There are still times when I have brief flashes of thinking he doesn’t love me. Why would he, after all? (I have issues.) But now, when those crop up, I know it’s my own anxiety talking, and that it has nothing to do with him.
Marriage counseling taught us some major tools that helped us move forward and make real progress in our relationship. Having both grown up in families with “issues,” though they varied…
