Help! My Interviewer Has a Big Green Booger in His Moustache
A sad tale of an early job-hunting mistake
I’ll be the first to admit that when I was a young pup — in my mid-to-late 20s — I made some pretty dumb mistakes when it came to job hunting and interviewing.
This was of course after I had graduated from college with a degree in mass communication from the University of South Dakota and had a smattering of professional journalism and public relations experience under my belt.
Like one time I went to an interview as a photojournalist with the state’s largest daily newspaper in Sioux Falls after having a couple of beers and sharing a joint with a friend. That’s something I would not recommend.
But I’ve had worse experiences.
A few years after that debacle, I decided I wanted to be an advertising copywriter. I had gained some experience working for a small public relations and advertising agency in Sioux Falls and figured I was ready to move on to bigger and better things. So, I decided to take my newspaper and advertising and public relations clippings and see if I could land a job at an agricultural marketing agency.
