The election pain that is not going away

A week before the election I wrote that I had stepped away from Medium, from the daily news, and from writing about politics. For six months. What a relief.

The endless back and forth across the spectrum of American politics was just too tiring. The massive gaps between fact and truth. The obsession with putting one another down. The light at the end of the tunnel barreling forward rather brightly….coming closer…and closer…BAM!

So here we are.

I am happy for one reason: we don’t hear the bleating about election cheating that Republican loyalists had been declaring for four years. The Democratic loyalists are accepting the transition of power far better than their counterparts in 2021. Thank you.

I am sad for another reason: the Democrats have lost so badly that they have turned over every drop of federal power to the party of Trump.

A divided government, though frustrating, at least provides some guard rails. Usually it keeps America from doing wildly horrible…
