I Confess: I’m Prejudiced!
The truth must be revealed
Tweaking the definition, along with an example
Most online sources cite the definition of prejudice along these lines: “an irrational attitude of hostility directed against an individual, a group, a race, or their supposed characteristics.”
While I agree that prejudice can be a hostile attitude against an individual or a group of people, I want to put forward that it is also possible to be favorably prejudiced towards an individual or group of people.
I can give you an example as a means of illustrating what I mean:
When I was in the Peace Corps, from 2003–2005, I lived and served in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, located in the northwestern region of Africa.
In addition to living in an Islamic Republic for two years, I have since traveled throughout Africa and Asia to fifteen countries where Islam is the exclusive or predominant religion.
My travels brought me into personal contact with hundreds of Muslims in these countries, where their attitude toward me was friendly, helpful, welcoming, and hospitable.
