If Republicans Had Empathy, They Would Be Democrats

I was perusing the books at my local thrift store the other day, as I do, and I came across a title by conservative pundit, Ann Coulter, entitled, “If Democrats Had Brains, They’d Be Republicans.”

Yikes. That’s quite an insult.

Hopefully, her book will stay on the shelf for a long time, in good company with the always-present copies of Sara Palin’s “Going Rogue” at the thrift store. (Seriously. In one store I frequent, the same four copies of her book have been sitting on the shelf for over two years!)

The thing is, Democrats already have the intelligence required to run the country, but we seem to have different objectives for having power. Some of you may argue that all politicians are crooks, and maybe they are, to some degree. There is likely a bit of robbing Peter to pay Paul types of deals happening behind the scenes that average citizens may never know about. But I do feel that democratic leaders at least have empathy.

The golden rule is to treat people how you would want to be treated. In politics, this should translate to everyone having the same rights, minus the influence of religion. The golden rule is the main focus of almost every religious…
