If Satan Exists, Then His Name is Milton Friedman
Shocked? You will be
Shock and awe are actions that create fears, dangers, and destructions that are incomprehensible to the people at large, elements of the threat society…nature in the form of tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, uncontrolled fires, famine, and disease can engender Shock and Awe.
From, Shock & Awe: Achieving Rapid Dominance, the military doctrine for the U.S. war on Iraq.
Ignorant me. I assumed corporations and economic growth simply tolerated natural disasters in deference to the bottom line of profit. I did not know it was more nefarious.
More enlightened me, via Naomi Klein’s 2007 bestseller which I am now just reading, The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism, finally gave me a much greater understanding of the hell we are all now in.
Enter Milton Friedman. For those of us non-economists, he is still a household name. Known as “Uncle Miltie,” he of the “no such thing as a free lunch” and “an entity’s greatest responsibility lies in the satisfaction of its shareholders,” eschews government social spending.
Had he not died in 2006, he, too might be adding extra security after the recent CEO execution.
