This is Why You Shouldn’t, Either
Unpopular Opinion: I disagree with most parents my age that teenagers shouldn’t use technology as much as they do. It seems like people are constantly berating and shaming their children for being on their devices so much.
Usually, I read this on social media. Posted by someone from their phone. Or a laptop that’s connected to Wifi.
It’s sad to me that so many parents complain about the habits or routines of their children. It’s pretty hypocritical to chastise them for the amount of time they spend on technology when many of us are doing the same damn thing. It’s another example of “Do what I say but don’t do what I do” type of parenting.
Kids are smart. They know hypocrisy when they see it. And don’t give them nonsense about a sigh or an eye roll if you are complaining about them and doing the same thing they are. If you want them to spend less time on their phones or laptops, you have to role model that behavior.
What do I mean by “role model” that behavior? Easy. You have to show them what you mean by being an example, yourself. How are they supposed to take you seriously about spending less time on their devices when yours…
