I’m So Glad We Can Finally Agree Violence is Wrong
Better late than never, I guess
I’m not going to say that Charlie Kirk had it coming, though that’s apparently what he felt about George Floyd.
I’m not going to say that Charlie Kirk was an awful person, though that’s exactly how Kirk described MLK.
I’m not even going to say that a few people like Charlie Kirk getting killed by firearms every year is a reasonable price to pay for our Second Amendment liberties, though Kirk himself said that it was.
I’m not going to say any of those things because they would be stupid and unproductive, as stupid and unproductive as the flood of absurdities and indecencies that managed to escape Charlie Kirk’s mouth during his short life.
Instead, I want to focus on the positive. Everywhere I look on social media, I see overwhelming agreement on the sentiment that political violence is wrong and that “we can do better.” Here’s a sample from my own feed:
I am saddened by the hate, vitriol, and division in our country. I am saddened to see people take the horrific events of the past week and twist them into “evidence” that somehow they are right and others are wrong. I am saddened that, as a country, we tally deaths as political points for our cause.
