It’s Been Exhausting
The past few weeks have been something else…
It’s been a bit of a wild ride for the past couple weeks. I don’t know if you’ve been paying much attention to what is happening in the United States right now, but…whoa.
As much as I would like to NOT have to pay attention to what is happening, it’s part of my job, and something that I have to be cognizant of every day because you never know what is going to happen and how it is going to affect the people whose safety with which I am entrusted.
It’s left me in a little bit of writing paralysis, wanting to write, but also knowing that because of the potential implications for my job, I can’t necessarily write exactly what I want to say. Whatever comes next, I’m still going to have to work regularly with my counterparts in the United States — and that will require a certain amount of diplomacy and tact on my part.
But I also can’t ignore what is happening and write as if everything is normal.
Because it’s not.
There is nothing normal about what is happening in the United States. It is what you would expect in a third-world dictatorship, not a 21st-century democracy. The threats against everyone who isn’t a white man that kneels at the feet of the great dictator are abhorrent and scary.
