Every day when he clocked out, it was his job to lock up the office building. Jeff had been doing it like clockwork for over five years now, five days a week. Although today was Friday, it was just another day. The clock struck 2:30 and he punched out.

His co-workers left the office before him and he quickly shut off the fans and the lights. He waited by the alarm keypad for the LCD letters to read, SYSTEM READY.

It always took a moment because he had to stand really still as the motion sensor was angled toward the keypad location. As soon as the words appeared, he punched EXIT to automatically turn on the alarm.

Then he went out the double glass doors, and they closed behind him automatically, secured by a heavy magnet. Now the only way in was with badge access. He turned and further secured the door by locking it with the key. He heard the locking mechanism slide home with a loud click.

Satisfied the building was properly secured, he headed toward his vehicle in the parking lot. He’d gone no more than ten steps or so when the building exploded behind him.
