My Best Summer Smoothie

As a cool summer treat or breakfast… or even dinner

When the weather turns warm, we love smoothies in our house. Sure, it can be a dessert. But, it can also be breakfast. Some evenings, we have just the smoothie for dinner.

To begin, I have these heavy duty 20 ounce glasses which I keep in the freezer. They’re great for keeping a drink cold without the diluting effects of melting ice. A bonus benefit is that they also help your freezer work better — because a full freezer holds the cold better. Whirlpool recommends keeping your freezer 75 to 80% full for best operating conditions.

You’ll also find that your smoothie poured into the frozen glass will sort of flash freeze around the inside of the drinking glass. That part is like eating ice cream!

Now… when I say “fruit smoothie,” I do NOT mean an all fruit blended drink. That’s just a fruit slushy — don’t get me wrong, they’re yummy too. By “fruit smoothie,” I mean a blended drink of frozen fruits and whole milk yoghurt (preferably Greek). It’s the yoghurt that makes the smoothie smooth.

You can use pretty much any fruit combination in your own smoothies. But what follows is our favorite combo. To start with, I’m allergic to strawberries and melon — so those are right out.
