Dear K,

As your journey unfolds, we’re learning more about the world of parenting and how technology can play a role in making it both exciting and challenging. Let me share our experiences with the smart AI-powered baby monitor, our home gadgets, and how they’ve become part of our daily life.

Your uncle, gifted us a cutting-edge AI-powered baby monitor. The idea was fantastic, but it hasn’t quite lived up to our expectations. It’s especially essential as I’m heading back to work, which brought about a mix of anxiety and motivation to set up the baby monitor.

In our home, we’ve embraced smart technology. A Google Home device, a wedding gift, adds convenience to our daily routines. Granddad surprised us with a Ring home camera, which is a gift that combines security with connectivity. These gadgets, along with our automated cat food dispenser for Z, all come together to create a smart home experience that makes us feel safer and more connected.

We’ve had the cat food dispenser for years now, and it’s become a part of our routine to feed and interact with Z while we’re away. The three cameras we have allow us to monitor every corner of our cozy two-bedroom home. The Ring camera’s wide-angle view even lets us peek into the kitchen.

However, it’s made me ponder – what’s the real point of all these gadgets? Apart from the occasional privacy concerns (which I’m not overly worried about), I struggle to find a downside to them. If you can afford it, they’re fun and offer a sense of security, but the truth is, you don’t truly need them.

Now, about that baby monitor – it’s genuinely impressive. It can detect when you move, when you turn your blanket, capture photos, and even send push notifications if you cry. It can play lullabies remotely or on a schedule, or cna use it as a walkie-talkie, just like an old-school baby monitor. But here’s the catch – it refuses to stay connected to the WiFi network, which can be frustrating.

Similarly, our cat food dispenser, while initially meant for scheduled feeding, ended up being more of a fun gadget for us. Z eats when he pleases, and we’d rather ensure food is available when he needs it. We don’t usually use the mic to call out to Z when we’re out, as it tends to make him search for us.

As I prepare to go back to work, these gadgets take on new significance. They allow me to check in on you and Mom, providing us with peace of mind during the day. Perhaps, just like the cat food dispenser, the baby monitor may evolve to be less about you and more for us, ensuring that we stay connected and assured even when we’re apart.

With love,
