The State makes the face of Congress
North Carolina has an election stealing problem right now. It’s featured on billboards across the state as backlash mounts over the losing Republican state Supreme Court candidate, Jefferson Griffin’s attempt to reverse the election results by trying to throw out over 60,000 votes. Most people on the list are long time regular voters who’ve never faced an issue with their ballots before.
Multiple recounts and careful election audits confirmed that Justice Allison Riggs narrowly won the most votes to keep her seat on our state’s highest court. But rather than concede, her opponent is asking the courts to undermine the will of 60,000 voters, with young people and Black voters challenged at higher rates.
Griffin’s targeted voters include even fellow Republican politicians and his own donors. Dr. Dawn Baldwin Gibson’s name is among those 60,000+ voters. A member of the North Carolina Judicial Branch’s Faith and Justice Alliance Steering Committee — “legal practitioners and faith-based leaders” — is a donor to Griffin’s campaign.
