If you grew up in the 80s like I did, chances are, you knew who Hulk Hogan was. From being the flagship superstar of the WWF to battling Sylvester Stallone in Rocky III, Hulkamania was everywhere.

And in the past two days, he’s been in my city to promote his new “Real American Beer” brand.

Word spread quickly that Hogan was coming to town. A recent news article even had an itinerary of the stops he’d be making at local gas stations, supermarkets, and sports bars. It would have been easy to track him down and meet the man we once idolized as wrestling-loving little kids.

But hell fucking no. I have no interest in meeting Hulk Hogan anymore.

Hulk Hogan was our hero. He was tall, strong, tan, and had a huge personality. He came into the ring waving an American flag with Rick Derringer’s “Real American” song blasting. He preached about the prayer, the training, and the vitamins during his on-air promotional segments.

But other segments and happenings were disturbing. This old, early-80s promo comes to mind. Hulk Hogan is heard referring to black wrestler Tony Atlas as “Boy”. Even if the powers that be scripted…
