Being vigilant about money scams is not just important; it’s crucial in today’s digital age.

Email money scams are not just prevalent; they are alarmingly widespread. It’s no wonder even intelligent people can fall for them. This is a wake-up call for all of us to be more vigilant in our online interactions.

For some reason, I see them very clearly. Even if I think they may be legitimate, I delete emails or texts and figure they’ll call or contact me again if it’s for real. I’ve honed this skill over time and guard my money at all costs.

One morning, while checking my email, I came across a scam. It was from PayPal, saying my account had some suspicious charges. The email had a PayPal logo, but the language was unprofessional and there were grammatical errors. It claimed I owed money to several places, and PayPal had frozen my credit card on file with them. They said they were disputing my charges, but could I provide another credit card number for future purchases?

There was a number to call.

I rarely use PayPal, so I was concerned. I looked up my account, and it had not been…
