Our Systems Are Infested
A short story about why it’s important to monitor local politics
It’s happening everywhere.
People who have no business being in positions of power are getting their jollies by running or advocating for their positions on local boards and they are taking over.
Why do you think so many books have been banned? Why do you think so much hate can be spread? Why do you think so much ignorance remains in places that were once bastions of truth and fact?
Because ignorant people are pushing into positions of power, even at the local level. So many citizens are focused on the national and international stages they are forgetting to be the guardians of their local communities and civic organizations.
Local communities are where we need to defend everyone’s rights. And many people are late to that realization.
Not conservatives. Not the religious right. They know. And they have been taking advantage of this for a very long time. It’s beginning to show up.
