Overstimulation in This Modern World

We will do anything not to feel

It seems we are all running from place to place our adrenaline kicked up, drive thru coffee and sugary treats to keep us going.

I see a lot of us in survival mode between work and commitments, kid things, family obligations. We are being pulled in multiple directions.

Of course it feels like we just need to shut down once in a while.

The intensity of this life makes us want to check out. We scroll on our phones, watch TV, eat, sometimes drink or use recreational drugs to find a sense of peace.

We might feel like garbage, but forget about it by the following weekend and are up to no good once again.

Lately, I have made an effort to look at

people’s eyes. They can tell a lot about a person. Are they clear and kind? Are they bloodshot and weary? Can the person give any eye contact at all? Is the smile genuine?

There is a peace that comes from deep within when we begin to step away from substances and find our true being. Our inner selves. We have an inner guide and knowing, a sixth sense, an intuition. Unfortunately many of our deepest parts are drowning under stimulants and depressants.
