Passive Aggression on the National Day of Mourning
Drama and subtext at Jimmy Carter’s funeral
Talk about a who’s who of politics. The news photos said it all. We had Bill (“I did not have sexual relations with that girl”) Clinton looking particularly stately with his half glasses perched regally on his nose with wife Hillary in tow, ol’ Dubya growing ever balder and grandpa-ish with wife Laura, Obama sans Michelle, Mike Pence and frump, Kamala Harris with husband Doug, Joe and Jill, and last but not least, the Donald and his silicone mannequin. Quite a lineup I’d say.
Despite the solemnity of the occasion (mourning the death of the only president in the country’s history to live to the ripe old age of 100), it was clear that old grudges would not be put aside for the occasion. And not a surprise for me.
If I’d ever run against Donald Trump and heard the offensive crap he would be sure to say about me, he’d be lucky if I simply ignored him at any function.
More likely Id have something to say. In fact, I’m waiting for the moment that somebody just walks up to Trump and socks him in his big mouth. That would really make my day. We can all dream.
But that sort of thing would be beneath our esteemed politicians. After all, we are not a banana republic (at least, for the moment).
