Removing Trump Won’t Fix America, Only Keep Us From Getting Worse

The MAGA movement won’t magically dissolve when Trump exits, stage very far right.

A reader commented on one of my articles that adding a section on Trump weakened the argument. And they were right.

We know what he stands for, so there’s nothing new to say. And bringing him into the discussion creates an unhealthy dynamic — we can lie to ourselves that he is the problem.

Admitting the truth about ourselves

It’s human nature to find a scapegoat when things go sideways, and Trump makes a perfect target: he’s the patron saint of inhumanity, a heartless sociopath who’s rotten to the core and lived a life built on lies and hate. He’s cruel. Monstrous even.

Or at least that’s how Evangelicals and mainstream Republicans thought about him until he descended the golden escalator and took over their party. Now, they’re fervent supporters. Feel free to draw your own conclusions.

But why won’t more Americans — on all sides of the political spectrum — take the final logical step and admit what…
