Rise and Shine?
Not So Fast
There has long been societal pressure to be a morning person. “Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise,” or so the saying goes. But why must we all be forced to conform to this so-called “ideal”? Why can’t we, the night owls, have our moment to shine? Being a “morning person” is often touted to be the key to success, but I beg to differ.
First of all, let’s be real, waking up at the crack of dawn every day can be straight-up boring. Going through the same routine every day, without any deviation, is enough to make even the liveliest person feel like they’re stuck as an NPC in a “Game”(as in the movie Free guy). On the contrary, being a night owl means you get to experience the thrill of staying up late and shaking things up. The tranquility of the night is something that the morning simply can’t touch.
Stress is another factor in not being a morning person. The pressure to be alert and productive early can negatively impact one’s mental and physical health. And don’t even get me started on feelings of guilt and inadequacy that comes with not conforming to “society’s expectations.” Meanwhile, we night owls can indulge in our freedom to stay up late and sleep well into the day without any pesky guilt holding us back.
And when it comes to flexibility, being a morning person can be a serious buzzkill. With strict schedules and routines, there’s little room for spontaneous actions(whims) or spur-of-the-moment plans. But night owls? We’re free to do as we please and take advantage of everything the night has to offer.
Being a morning person may be all the rage, but it’s high time we call BS on that. There’s a whole lot to be said about embracing our inner night owl. From the excitement and mystery of the night to the freedom and flexibility of a more relaxed atmosphere, being a night owl comes with many perks. So, It’s time for the early birds to take a break and give a shoutout to all the night owls out there.
