MOROI
Historian, folklorist, and founding member of the Romanian Academy, Ion G. Sibiera (1836–1916), and the writer and poet Ilarie Voronca (1903–1946) wrote about these supernatural creatures.
Although popular belief is not always precise and will often mix these creatures’ names, these two gentlemen say that there is a clear distinction between Moroi and Strigoi.
According to them, a Moroi is the soul of a child who died before he could be baptized. It could be a child who was born in secret by a very young girl and then left to die, killed, or buried alive by her to hide the birth. Or it could be a loving mother’s stillborn child or a sick baby that dies soon after birth.
