San Francisco Represents Everything That’s Wrong With America

2024 may well be the year of reckoning for Uncle Sam

I recently read something a friend of mine had written about San Francisco. She’s your typical go-getter founder — both she and her husband are Y Combinator alums and serial entrepreneurs.

They’re originally Indians and moved to the US for their Masters degrees. They’ve both lived in San Francisco for the last decade or so and call it home.

The irony of the post was stark. Without going into the details of the nearly 500-word post, here’s its essence.

It was a post about a horrible experience a friend of hers had during their SF trip, and hence this was a guide for the first-time tourist to avoid such an occurrence.

One of the pieces of advice was as follows:

Don’t leave anything in sight if you’ve a car. Not even your aux cable. There’s a 95%+ chance of smashing if you leave your laptop bag on front seat to go to a coffee shop.

And then after several other such brilliant gems, the post ended with the following:

All big cities have issues and SF is similar. Just be in nice areas, use caution and that’s all. SF is a magical place with lovely mountains, ocean, parks, great views…
