Seeing Both Sides of the Immigration Issue
Trump steps into the other guy’s shoes — just for a second
Boiled down to its essence, the immigration issue in the United States has two basic points of view. The MAGA side claims that the flood of people crossing our Southern border is chock full of criminals and/or freeloaders who cost the taxpayer mightily in dollars as they bog down social agencies causing working Americans to pay for their welfare, food stamps, and medical care all while the illegals steal American jobs.
More pragmatic thinkers on the subject understand that while some of this might be true, the fact remains that undocumented “illegals” are a vital part of the economy who work the jobs Americans don’t want.
They know that the USA is a country built on the backs of immigrant labor. It’s an undeniable part of our history. From the slaves who were forced to come to our shores — to the Irish and Chinese who built the transcontinental railroad — it’s always been immigrants who did the heavy lifting. And it’s not a lot different today.
In fact, according to US Department of Agriculture, fully 40% of farm workers are undocumented immigrants. Additionally, 31% of hospitality workers (hotel labor) are similarly undocumented according to an immigration advocacy group.
