How to Quit Dwelling on Your Past Mistakes
How many of you out there struggle with guilt? Do you have regrets when you think about mistakes from your past? Do they make you sad, or keep you awake at night? I know that feeling.
When it was time to lay my head on my pillow each night, my brain would decide to do cartwheels and jumping jacks. It wasn’t easy falling asleep most of the time. The sleepless nights wreaked havoc on my mental health.
My past was winning. No matter what I did to forget the bad things I’d done years prior, the memories and guilt that came with it seemed to dominate my thoughts. I frequently felt like a horrible person. That wasn’t a good feeling.
The things I’d done in my past weren’t terrible by most people’s standards. I never dug a hole and put someone in it. I’ve never physically hurt another human being. Well, one that didn’t have it coming, anyway. We all get into fights as kids, especially if you were bullied or picked on.
But I’ve let a few people down during the 49 years I’ve been on this planet. I’ve said some things that were hurtful and regretful. I’ve done a few things I’m not proud of and one or two that I’ll never tell…
