Show Me The Courage
Don’t tell me who you are, your actions belie your words
by Elaine Gilmartin
Many have seen the viral post from a Green Bay Packers fan who attended a recent Philadelphia Eagles game with her partner only to be verbally berated by an Eagles fan.
Initially appearing as teasing banter as the couple wore their team’s jerseys, this particular fan, since identified as Ryan Caldwell, was persistent and increasingly provocative, using especially ugly words directed to the woman in that twosome, Ally Keller, who was quoted as saying,
“And then he just said, ‘Actually, you’re not even good-looking enough to be talking to me,’” Keller said. “And then I said, you know, ‘What does that mean?’ And he said, ‘You know what that means.’ And so I said, ‘Have you looked in the mirror yourself?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, but I’m a man. I’m allowed to be ugly. You’re a woman.”
Once identified, the Eagles have permanently disinvited Mr. Caldwell to any future games at their stadium and his employer, BCT Partners, let him go, although BCT founder, Randall Pinkett, seemed regretful that ‘cancel culture’ took out an otherwise ‘decent’ human being.
